Many people who have celiac disease or have a gluten allergy may hear "You're so lucky! I wish I was allergic to bread, I really don't need the carbs!" Well, let me tell you this is probably the WORST thing you can say to someone who can't eat gluten. Sometimes you just need to have a bread fix and crave having something soft and doughy. The gluten free bread-like options available are normally loaded with extra carbs, mainly due to rice and potato flour substitutes. If you are able to go without the gluten and don't regularly need a bread fix, then yes, being gluten free is like being on a lower carb diet. It also means having simpler ingredients, since there are many dressings, marinades, and sauces that have gluten in them. Many celebrities such as Russell Crowe, Victoria Beckham, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Dana Delany, Zooey Deschanel, Chelsea Clinton, Emmy Rossum, Ryan Phillippe, and Rachel Weisz are gluten free, healthy, and they are obviously in great shape. So you be the judge if you are gluten free: have you been able to lose weight easier?
